PRAXIS

Each Week: Using the guided meditation or the prompts below, pray the Examen 2-3 times/wk and practice Ignatian noting afterward.

An Awareness Examen

The Awareness Examen (Examination of Consciousness or Examen) is a 7’ form of reflective exercise recommended by St. Ignatius to help us grow in gratitude and responsiveness to the Spirit. There are many ways to pray the Examen. This one focuses on paying attention to our feelings and noticing God’s laboring love.

1. Breathe: Jesus, would you help me see my day through your eyes and feel with your heart?

2. Thank: What am I grateful for today? Thank you, Lord for these obvious and disguised gifts.

3. Feel: What experiences most affected me today? Which feelings (both positive and negative) arose within me?

4. Pray: How was I receptive or not receptive to you, Lord? I talk to God like a good friend about the above feelings and experiences that affected me.

5. Respond: How do you invite me to be more attentive or responsive to you, Lord?
