ENCOUNTERING GOD
Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.
Today, on December 14, is the Memorial of St, John of the Cross. I find myself resonating with today’s responsorial psalm and the saint himself, because two years ago, I went through a desolation period where I could not feel the presence of God, even though I had gone to Mass and participated in the liturgy.
Turning to God in my desolation period is difficult because of my soul being shredded of the old ways and transitioning to a renewal that will lead me closer to God.
Often seeing God’s face, involves me stepping out of my comfort zone, and thinking about how I am fostering my relationship with God first, before He can answer my prayers. I’ll take a simple example of me dating again, after being heartbroken four times.
My old relationships didn’t work out because I wasn’t focused on what God wants for me, instead, my prayer life seemed more like begging for him to bring someone into my life, rather than being patient in God’s timing, for Him to bring the man that would help me get closer to Him.
I ask myself this question: Am I good enough for Him, when I should be asking: How can I be doing more for God and is my partner willing to help me get to Heaven and practice my faith?
I realized God was molding and preparing me for my now boyfriend, Patrick. But first, I had to come to Him and ask for the grace to be patient.
As I remember St John of the Cross, I invite you to ponder this question: What are some of the ways you can encounter God this Advent season?
