LIVING WATER

“Whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” - John 4:14

In today’s Gospel, we hear about the story of the Samaritan woman at the well and her excitement in sharing the good news of Jesus. I really love the visual depiction of this holy encounter from the series, The Chosen.

This Lenten season, I’ve been reflecting a lot on my faith journey – from the life I led before my encounter with Jesus to where I am now. For most of my life, I was drawing water out of the wrong well, not knowing Jesus is the living water. I spent my early 20s not truly believing. Instead, I chased worldly treasures, conformed to societal norms, and thought I didn’t need God by my side. I am embarrassed to admit that I was a hard critic of God and his goodness... that is, until I experienced His merciful and unconditional love. My encounter with Jesus ended up drawing me to new life in Christ.

The parable of the Samaritan woman is a rich example of truth, redemption, acceptance, and love. Similar to the woman at the well, I am amazed at how God continues to show me that I am fully known and deeply loved. With God’s grace, I am now in that place in my life where I want to share the good news of Jesus and how He works within my life. The love that I have received, I want to give it back tenfold. I have a hunger to share my testimony just as the Samaritan woman did with the townspeople. I am living proof that our Lord is truly the Savior of the world. I am the woman at the well.

I invite you to pray with a song called Woman at the Well by Olivia Lane. May His living water draw us to new life in Christ.
